Whisper Walk runs no servers of its own and stores no personal data about you. To work, the app fetches content directly from public services, like a browser does. This necessarily transmits some data to those services. What, to whom and why is explained here.

• No account, no tracking: The app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking services and creates no user accounts.
• Location: Your location is used to centre the map on your surroundings and to find places near you. We do not store it. For the nearby search, your precise coordinates are sent to the services listed below (OpenStreetMap, Nominatim, Wikipedia), solely to answer the request in real time.
• Technically required connections: Like a web browser, the app loads content directly from public services: map tiles, depending on the chosen map style, from OpenStreetMap (default), OpenTopoMap or OpenStreetMap France (HOT and CyclOSM styles), places and search via OpenStreetMap and Nominatim, articles and images from Wikipedia and speech audio from the public Microsoft Read-Aloud service (servers may be outside the EU). If you download the optional offline voice pack, it is fetched once from GitHub. As with any web request, your IP address is technically transmitted to these services. Whisper Walk transmits no personal data beyond that. The privacy policies of the respective providers apply.
• Transfers outside the EU: Some of these services, in particular Microsoft's text-to-speech service and, for the optional voice pack, GitHub, may process data on servers outside the EU, for example in the USA. The transfer happens technically through your request for the content, comparable to opening a web page. The privacy terms of each provider apply. We hold no adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses for these requests.
• Local storage: Loaded places, stories, and your settings are cached locally on your device only. Uninstalling the app removes them completely.
• This website: The site itself loads nothing from third parties, sets no cookies and uses no tracking. It is hosted with a provider in the EU (IONOS SE, Germany) that, for delivery and to fend off attacks, technically processes your IP address in server log files.
• No sharing, no selling: There is nothing to share or sell.
• Legal basis: Processing takes place, where necessary, to provide the features you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and on the basis of our legitimate interest in a functional, data-minimising app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• No automated decision-making: There is no profiling and no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. Providing the data described is neither a statutory nor a contractual requirement. Without it, however, the respective features cannot work.
• Your rights: You have the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). As we store no personal data about you, we usually hold no data these rights could apply to. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Saxon Commissioner for Data Protection and Transparency, Devrientstraße 1, 01067 Dresden, Germany.
